Drive-by post! I'm trying to work my way into writing for Korean and Japanese drama fandoms, and used the [community profile] chromaticvision Drabblethon as a starting point to get into my favourite character's heads.

None of these drabbles are very good, natch, but I feel good to flex my writing muscles in fandoms I'm not entirely sure of yet. It's good practice for my Kaleidoscope fic!

Capital Scandal
Warm Whisky (Wan/Yeo-Kyung)

Keizoku
Sleep To Dream Her (Mayama/Shibata)

Keizoku 2: SPEC
2:53am (Toma{/Sebumi-ish})

Trick
Mooncake (Yamada/Ueda)

An actual update soon - I'm so behind on Fashion 70's and everything in general. But here's to writing again, huzzah!
I know, I know. You're hanging for the next Fashion 70's post - but before I unleash the fury of a thousand bell-bottoms, I would like you to watch the following clip. It's five minutes and there are no subs, because you don't need subs for the absurdity to grab you by the collar and force you into a velour suit.

Ladies and gents - Jang-Bin's actual introduction to the series, after scuba fun-times. There's a bunch of cops, The World's Greatest Tailor being amazing, awkward family reunions, a tango is danced and...yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. Sadly, that scene didn't end with someone yelling "PUT A FUCKING SHIRT ON, JANG-BIN. GEEZ." or "HE OBVIOUSLY PASSED IT TO THE BROAD IN THE WEDDING DRESS!" I suspect the show would be shorter if that had happened.

Thus ends your FASHION 70'S homework. I'm sorry. But! Next time, Jang-Bin continues not to wear a shirt and Kang-Hee/Faux Soon-Hee surprises us all by becoming the best character! I know, right?
Ladies and Gentlement - the winner of our first ever Fashion 70's costume poll - the tapestry suit!

Like there was any doubt. When we eventually cosplay The Traveling Fashionistas, I bags it.

Shall we dive in? We shall! (note: this may be a pun)

Get it? DIVE in? DIVE? Scuba suit? Scuba DIVING? Uh...yeah. )

[Poll #1776596]

And...vote! Go! Go! Go!

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] lizbee has provided a fairly accurate record of that time we saw LOL Never Dies. 'Fairly' as it didn't include me embarrassingly bursting out in very loud laughter at Surprise!Phantom (SPOILERS) which I then felt bad about for ten minutes before it all got bad again.

Good times. Good, Phantomy times.
Sticking these suckers together because holy Jesus there's a lot of 1950's based exposition. We just want flares and mismatched patters, people!

But - wait! What's that I see at the end of episode four!? Stay tuned! (spoilers: it's the seventies)

Who else wishes this show was about The Traveling Fashionistas and their meaningful relationships? )

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time for the first Fashion 70s Costume Poll! Boogie Shoes for all!

[Poll #1774469]

Vote! Vote! Vote!

I need a lie-down.
Once upon a time, there was a kdrama called Capital Scandal. CapScan (if you're so inclined) featured some of the best/worst costuming OF ALL TIME - spurring a lovely LJer named [livejournal.com profile] bookelfe to post a series of fashion polls to determine the best outfits in a sea of floral fedoras, mismatched suits and hypercolour hanboks. The polls and their posts were wonderful and pastely, and, being a huge costume nerd, it spurred me to procure a kdrama called Fashion 70s.

Fashion 70's (패션 70's) is a kdrama from 2005 that follows four friends from their childhood during the Korean War to their adulthood in the debaucherous seventies. You can see why, like a bower bird, I was drawn to this and the potential costumey LOLZ.

Then I noticed it was TWENTY-EIGHT EPISODES LONG. But it was clear to both [livejournal.com profile] bookelfe and myself this was one I had to take for the team, as it was imperative I help in sharing Korean drama's idea of a "fashionable" "seventies" with you all (inverted commas mine).

(and here is where we get out any lingering jokes about the irony of "fashion" and "seventies" being in the same title)

Cue the Bee Gees! Pull on your flares! Tease up that hair! Let's do it!

Image may not reflect what's actually under the cut )

Oy. The real question: do we want fashion polls, or are we content in agreeing Madame Fierce-a-Lot will always be the winner?

Fair enough.

30 Day KDrama Challenge
2. Your Favourite Male Lead Character

I was really tempted to skip this one and just go onto the ladies, because, well - the men in kdramas? Are jerks. A good chunk of the time, anyway - or they're so sugary sweet I want to gargle saltwater in direct response.

Ggot Soon isn't on this list. But he should be. )

The Days )

Drinking Game! One shot every time the word "jerk" is mentioned. Voila!

Tomorrow! ~the ladies~
[livejournal.com profile] firthgal has been doing her own 30 Days of KDrama Challenge over at her lovely journal, so I thought I'd join in the structured fun and attempt to do the same.

30 Day KDrama Challenge
1. Your Favourite KDrama

ARE YOU MAKING ME CHOOSE BETWEEN MY CHILDREN ALREADY, MEME?!

This is seriously a hard one to start with, as there is no way I have just one. But, as I sort of kept thinking about this through the week, I realised that there is one that stands above the others. Actually, three.

Let CSW's mears invite you in )

You know what suck? Late shifts. You know what doesn't suck? Dalmatian & chillin' with [livejournal.com profile] ryoflame. Best. <3

And Best Love/Greatest Love/The Discovery of Affection/Oh, Pieces, You're in a TV Show With Cha Seung-Won and Played by Gong Hyo-Jin!/whatever the fuck it's called.

First thing's first. City Hall? Was my first drama. It was the one that took me from "yeah okay" to "HOLY SHIT", and I have a real soft spot in my heart for it that I didn't want to challenge or stir up. Why? Because it's perfectly imperfect in my mind, and I was cool with that. So you can imagine my reluctance to buy into Best Love, and not just because my tin-hat is securely in place re: CSW and Kim Sun-Ah.

HOW WRONG I WAS, FLISTY, HOW WRONG I WAS. )

I hate it when my diary is read by Korean drama writers.

EDIT: Omo, the National Treasure Girls' song is sung by Sunny Hill! OMG I LOVE THEM <3

In other news, I've posted a Half-Assed Review of F(x)'s new album at YouTube. LOL PYJAMAS

*mears = man tears
Things To Do Today:

- washing
- tidy up
- finish vlog
- watch My Princess
- watch wrestling
- dye hair
- write post about ~fashuns~ in Capital Scandal
- relax

I only have one day off this week (don't ask), so I tried to cram everything in and mucho failed. Got to see [livejournal.com profile] weaverandom, though, and act like a disobedient puppy because she's watching Capital Scandal ("I want to watch the one with the waistcoats." "OKAY! *wriggles*") before ending the night with Eurovision (house favourite: Estonia's Getter Janni with 'Rockefeller Street', probably because it sounds like something IU would sing).

Started watching My Princess, althought I was really distracted by something - I'll use Cameron to visually show how I feel every time I open my hard drive:

I can't even begin to explain how it's eaten my brain. All I want to do is watch the damn thing again. But I shan't! I shan't!

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying My Princess. Surprisingly so, as I thought it would be a bit too sugary for my tastes, and the inclusion of Boring wasn't making my heart sing with anticipation. Also, usually Super Hot Lead means Super Bad Actor, but Song Seung-hun not only can act, he's bloody good at playing the ham.

hammy ham ham )

My Princess - so far, so sufficent. It's no Capital Scandal, though.

...screw it, I'm watchin' it again.
Holy shit I wrote something.

TITLE: And I'll Forget The Rest of Me
FANDOM: IRIS and Athena: Goddess of War. Sun-Hwa-centric.
RATING: M for some sexual situations.
DISCLAIMER: I don't own these characters.

They're barely eighteen, her plain dress stuck to the spokes of her bicycle by the wind -  )

I love them so much, guys. So much.
Oh? What's that? [livejournal.com profile] zeplum is the greatest human being ever?

YES SHE IS.

Now go read and appreciate the best piece of IRIS fanfiction that isn't about Bro and his love for skivvies.

Geez, it seems to be the only thing I'm bloody posting about at the moment. Good? Bad? Good/bad?

1. IRIS Franchise Keeps Chugging Along at Dramabeans.com. Looks like we're going to be Teeth-less. Which, y'know. Make sense, what with him doing GI Joe 2: The Rise of Hipster JGL and other factors.

2. Is this the time to start campaigning for IRIS 2: The North Koreans Are Better Than You? I mean, NK Lite probably had never seen a Sea-Doo in North Korea, and now he's all rescuing people and shit!

Hyep. Speaking of those BAMFs, admire my new LJ layout. I sure have been. :3

3. For your entertainment, and because I have to justify the $28938293829 spent on the ~official~ DVDs:

IRIS Bloopers
(Megaupload, zip, 70-oddmb)

See Teeth be lol kawaii! Watch as the NKs pwn everyone with their very presence! Wonder why Bro gets shafted, Boring is so boring and T.O.P.'s hair seems to have a life of it's own! Marvel at the fact there's no subtitles so they could be talking about anything!

I used to be normal. Once.

I'm planning to make a proper k&jdrama post today, but in the interim, have this.

[livejournal.com profile] suburbannoir and I are currently watching Athena: Goddess of War. It's the sequel/spin-off/they couldn't get Lee Byung-hun again of IRIS, Korea's most expensive television show and possibly the biggest reason I'm foraying into the world of Korean dramas and like to have flashbacks to things I did five seconds ago.

Anyway, we're up to episode ten and nothing has happened. Like, nothing. Sure, they're running around being spies, and Cha Seung-won's hair is threatening to take over the universe as he sits on chairs menacingly - but I swear, we've watched almost ten hours of TV and the best thing that's happened is that time The Good and Old Guy went and danced at a Russian nightclub.

Oh, and this. Basically, everyone walked away from IRIS rooting for the North Koreans, mainly because they are a bunch of BAMFs who should have had sex with everyone. In Athena, we get to meet one of their former agents, Ki Soo. So far, he's wandered around being ~zany~ while discharging weapons randomly and running a mahjong casino dealio. We're convinced he's supposed to have some sort of redemption, but like I mentioned, not much has happened in the show as a whole, so don't expect any character development just yet.

In episode six, some shit was happening, before we cut to Zany Mahjong Casino Dealio. Seems there's a high roller who's doin' somethin' shady, so Ki Soo drags him into his office and demands he plays a card game with him. The game is simple: Shady Bloke will pull one card, Ki Soo'll pull another, and if Ki Soo has the higher number card, he gets to punch Shady Bloke in the face. I can't explain any clearer than in caps and bold: THIS SCENE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING. NOTHING. NADA. It's almost beautiful in its absurdity.

Just watch, and marvel:

(no subs because you get the idea - Shady Bloke is screaming to stop, then swaps the rules of the game so he pulls the lower card etc etc)

Crying. With laughter. Because IT DOESN'T STOP. Then it cuts back to the ~spy action~ and is never mentioned again.

That's why, ladies and gents, I love kdrama and everything it chooses to be.

EDIT: Oooh SBS are quick. If the video is not working, just bare with me as I try to by-pass the man.
EDIT EDIT: Let's see how TinyPic takes it. Bless you, YouTube, and your endless fight against people sharing media. Bless you.

My darling [personal profile] firthgal has had a hard couple of days, so I thought I'd make a little fanmix to cheer her up. Except most of the music is wistful and bittersweet and kind of depressing - but if that's not our favourite North Koreans in a nutshell, I don't know what is.

THE DARKNESS DEFINES WHERE THE LIGHT IS | Songs for Sun Hwa & Chul Young )

Man I love making fanmixes. I hope you feel better, [personal profile] firthgal! <3333

(This one also goes out to my watcher-in-crime, [profile] suburbannoir, who probably will kick me for using The National.)

And everyone else? Just enjoy the two BAMFiest BAMFs who ever BAMFed:
