HAY NOT DEAD. Tired, working, LOLing, dancing, eating, Monkee-ing et al, but not dead.

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND MERRY BIRTHDAY CHRISTMAS, FLIST!

I hope you all had a blast, and are as looking forward to 2007 as I am. That said, here be the Mix CD O' Doom, promised as a part of your christmas cards but I decided to go the electronic route because postage would be $$$$$. What am I, made of money?

TRACK LISTING

1.
{Pendulum | Slam}
Is this bass really strong enough?

A favourite of my sister, Pendulum are nice Brisbane boys who play nice house music to nice ravers. "Slam" is easily one of the coolest songs of the year due to it's nice meld of nice hip hop and ecstacy-pinging grooves. Nice. And movie trailer-esque!

2.
{JuJu Timberlake | SexyBack}
Let me make up
For all the things you lack

Hello. It's "SexyBack". Remember that time I recorded it for you all? Good times.

3.
{Camille | Ta Douleur}
Tra la la
Frenchy french talk

Released around the time I started at That Evil Place I Worked, Camille's beat boxing and adorable French accent would pick me up and twirl me around on Monday mornings when the last thing I wanted to do was sweep a floor or deal with emos. For that, she is a saint in an indistingushable language.

4.
{Scissor Sisters | I Can't Decide}
It's not easy
Having yourself a good time

Best. Lyrics. Ever. Wonderful for playing on your way to work, complete with homicidal thoughts of your employer and Supernatural fandom's hate of women.

5.
{Ben Lee | Begin}
The nuclear bomb
And the reasons I loved her

A song that grows on you, it's easily become a Heroes song in the minds of the House o' Squid. Hopeful yet bittersweet, it's now also on the playlist at Nouveau Work, and that proves how much better it is than Old Evil Work. Or something.

6.
{They Might Be Giants | Older}
You're older than
You've ever been

Thanks, Bowling + Rollercoasters = Fun!

7.
{Hawksley Workman | Canadian Motorcycle Gangs}
Ride hard
If you ride at all

Saw him once, missed him once, got his entire back catalogue, had BFFs calling him Goren, met him, got embarrassed mortally in front of him, listened to him, rolled my eyes at him, loved him more than words could ever, ever, ever say and gave him my heart forever and always.

8.
{Chris Isaak | Please}
What's the problem?
What's the question?

When Chris Isaak and I get married, I will demand he sings this to me over dinner every night. Without fail. Even if I'm witholding sex and not talking to him. Now in karaoke form!

9.
{The Faint | Erection}
It's the cock
Of a rifle

When I first heard this song, I automatically linked it with The Brother Winchester. Does this mean that:
a) I'm a perve
b) The Brothers Winchester have erections
c) All of the above?

10.
{Hot Chip | Over & Over}
K-I-S-S-I-N-G
S-E-X

Like a miniature cymbal, man. Ever been followed by a song FOR A WHOLE YEAR? Well, this is my version. Over and over I heard this song whenever I listened to Triple J or watched Rage - and no, the irony isn't lost on me.

11.
{Backstreet Boys | My Beautiful Woman}
But still I'm not complainin'
'Bout my situation

INCOHERANT. SONG. SAW THEM. LOVED THEM. NOT NSYNC BUT HAVE AJ THUS AWESOME. SONG. DED. (this song also had the dubious honour of being my ring tone for most of the year. Now I rush for my phone whenever I hear the opening, but hey, THIS SONG.)

12.
{Boytown | Boytown '89}
Woah, oh, oh
Oh Boytown!

You had to be there. Or Australian.

13.
{The Triangles | Let's Replace the Cityscapes}
Getting lost is
Easier than losing your mind

Brought into our lives by [livejournal.com profile] mandysbitch, it became an unoffical anthem of our household. Love it now before it becomes a film trailer standard and/or the new Channel Ten theme tune. "Write the theme tune, sing the theme tune..."

14.
{Muse | Supermassive Black Hole}
You caught me
Under false pretences

MUSE: *release new song*
WORLD: "BHUH?"
PIECES: *LOVES*
WORLD: "...uh, we love it too?"
MUSE: "DOUCHES."
PIECES: *still loves*

15.
{Bon Jovi | You Give Love (A Bad Name)}
SHOT TO THE HEART
And you're to blame

Could it be the funniest sound gag ever? Is How I Met Your Mother the new Mad About You? Has Doogie Howser gotten away from his, er, Doogie Howser stereotype? Can teenagers actually be doctors? Does Piecesof actually care?

16.
{The Monkees | Listen to the Band}
Weren't they good
They made me happy

When you get older, often things you enjoyed, loved, obsessed over lose their gloss on a second outing. Like Joey Lawrence. But The Monkees have continued to hold my heart and soul in their skinny 1960's hands - from the way I dress to the words I speak, their stamp is all over who I am today, and I'm grateful. "Listen to the Band" is somewhat wistful for me - especially their live performance of it on the bizarre 33 and a 3rd Revolutions Per Monkee special, as it was the last time all four performed together on TV - it's the perfect mix of irony and a truly fantastic song that still makes it one of my favourite songs ever. It got an airing this year due to getting my media player, and the DVDs coming out here; but always and forever, this and all their tracks will always be a part of my life.

And that, folks, was my year in musical form.

TWO THINGS:

1. You were going to furnish me with the Boytown soundtrack. Or was I going to buy it and support Australian? I can't remember.

2. Do you know who brought 'Let's Replace the Cityscapes' into [livejournal.com profile] mandysbitch's life? IF YOU SAID "OH I BET IT WAS PEN," YOU'D BE CORRECT. OH SHIT IT'S HER BIRTHDAY TOMORROW.

1. You said you were going to buy it and support Molloy Siblings! But I will furnish, just let me upload. OKAY PUSHY.

2. "I wonder if Pen introduced the Triangles track into C's life. I BET SHE DID." OH SHIT IT IS HER BIRTHDAY. I still think it's weird that I INTRODUCED HER TO THE PRETENDER. IN MY LIVING ROOM.

I love your mixes. They're very ... involved? I've just given up on ever finding the right word for anything.

And, hey. Your eyes are a bit crazy.

Better "involved" than "crapola". I just like making mixes. Maybe it's my calling in life, next to Retail Bitch.

Cookies for eyes - it's the new fashion, man.

Don't mind the JuJu Timberlake, will you? ;)

although it's the best song to clean to EVER

I actually had that one already & made a ring tone for it because Steve was teasing me about bringing Sexy Back! ;)

Oooh, good idea! I think I may snag the music retrospective (except for the cover part because me = not talented)

Happy New Year!

DO IT! It's so much fun, thinking of all the songs you were obsessed with for 365 days.

Happy New Year :)
